Elena Andrioti, Ph.D.
I am a licensed counseling psychologist in Dubai where I offer psychotherapy services in English, French and Arabic to the community. I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based treatments to adolescent and adult clients with a wide range of emotional, behavioral and adjustment problems, such as depression, anxiety, daily stress, significant life challenges and relationship problems.
My work centers on establishing a relationship of trust and respect with my clients in a confidential setting where I empathize with their concerns and offer my support without bias of any issues raised in therapy.
Background and Clinical Training
I am an active mental health advocate and for the past several years have been organizing psychoeducational workshops and sessions for organizations, leading team workshops, and delivering keynote presentations.
I first received my B.A. in Psychology from the American University of Beirut and went on to complete an MSc. in Clinical Psychology and Health Services and then a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Goldsmiths, University of London. Prior to moving to the UAE, I trained in both Lebanon and the United Kingdom.
In the earlier stages of my career, I trained in a hospital setting at the St. Georges University Medical Center in Lebanon. During this clinical assistantship, I worked with individuals who sought help for various mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, addiction, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and personality disorders. Further, I gained extensive experience with various in-patient and out-patient cases of addiction and eating disorders. Working in a hospital setting has given me the opportunity to learn about psychopharmacology (i.e. psychiatric medications) and to collaborate with other professionals on a multidisciplinary team.
Throughout my years of practice, I have worked with children, parents, and caregivers, through a behavior therapy approach, to improve the child’s positive behaviors and self-esteem and eliminate problem behaviors. Behavior therapy is often more effective when delivered by parents, particularly for younger children, which is why I often spend more sessions with the parents alone or with both the parents and the child.
During my graduate studies, I also chose to take the Hogan Certification courses and am a certified assessor in personality and aptitude testing. I administer, interpret and implement the following personality-based assessment inventories: Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI), Hogan Development Survey (HPS) and Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory (MVPI). The Hogan assessments are designed to address various challenges experiences by organizations and can be used for talent selection (pre-hire selection and executive-level development) and talent management initiatives.
